IIIT Kottayam - Admission 2025, Fees, Courses, Placement, Ranking

The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Kottayam is an autonomous engineering institute. It is one of the 21 Indian Institutes of Information Technology that were established by the Indian government's Ministry of Human Resource Development. IIIT Kottayam was established in 2017 under the Public Private Partnership method. The partnership of the Government of India, the Government of Kerala and the industry partners was done in the ratio of 50:35:15 and the investment for IIIT Kottayam will also be done by these three authorities in this very ratio. IIIT Kottayam was declared as an Institute of National Importance in the year 2017. This was done by the IIIT PPP Bill of 2017. This institute has been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). At the time of its foundation, IIIT Kottayam functioned at the campus of Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kerala which was its temporary campus for a while, under the mentorship of a reputed college, the National Institute of Technology Calicut. The mentorship of IIIT Kottayam was later given to IISER Thiruvananthapuram and its campus was shifted to the campus of Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation (GIFT) at Thiruvananthapuram. This happened in December 2016 after which the construction of the permanent campus of IIIT Kottayam was started.

At present, IIIT Kottayam functions from its permanent campus at Valavoor, Palai in the Kottayam District of the state of Kerala, the inauguration of which was done in February 2019. The location of the institute is serene and beautiful. Despite being a new establishment, IIIT Kottayam is striving towards becoming a topmost college of engineering in India. It has formulated a plan to keep the authorities functioning smoothly so that students can avail as many benefits as possible. IIIT Kottayam follows a rigorous curriculum to train its students in the best way possible. It also hosts many fests and activities for students to showcase their talents and abilities. The institute promotes the overall development of students so that they can grow up to become talented, knowledgeable individuals with a plethora of skills.

IIIT Kottayam offers various UG and PG courses like BTech, MTech and doctoral courses. Some specializations are also available in online format. Admissions are based on national level exams like JEE Mains, GATE followed by JoSAA and CCMT counselling respectively. Admissions for MTech are already closed for this year, registrations for next year will begin by August 2025 and the exam is scheduled in February 2026. BTech admissions are still ongoing, round 5 cutoff has been released by JoSAA, interested candidates can check the official website for results. The fee at IIIT Kottayam ranges between 3 Lakhs - 12 Lakhs.

The Indian Institute of Information and Technology Kottayam courses are offered at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in Engineering. IIIT Kottayam include 4 B.Tech specialisations namely Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), CSE with Cyber Security specialisation, Computer Science Engineering (CSE), and CSE specialising in AI and Data Science, 4 MTech specialisations, and Ph.D. courses. IIIT Kottayam fees for the B.Tech programme are Rs 1,20,000 (first semester) whereas the fee for M.Tech in CSE is Rs 1,08,000/-(sem 1). The duration of  IIIT Kottayam ranges from 2- 4 years.
